Having a good credit score can seem difficult at times, even for people who are financially stable. How do you increase your credit score fast? Discover our 5 tips!
1. Make Your Payments on Time
That’s the golden rule to follow: Even if you have the money, late or missed payments can be expensive. Pay the full amount before the due date or make sure to make the minimum payment. If you’re going through financial difficulties, it’s better that you contact the lender.
2. Use No More Than 30% of Your Credit
Ideally, use only 30% of your available credit. Above all, avoid going over 50%! For example, if your credit card has a $5,000 limit, avoid using more than $2,500. Otherwise, creditors will see you as a greater risk, even if you pay your balance on time! If needed, apply for a credit limit increase.
3. Keep Your Accounts Open
You’re switching to another banking institution, or you want to reduce the number of credit cards you have? You can stop using your credit accounts without closing them. In so doing, you increase the length of your credit history with financial institutions. It’s rewarding to have a long credit history!
4. Vary the Types of Credits You Have
One credit card is not enough to show that you pay your bills on time. Don’t put all your eggs in the same basket: Take out different loans, like:
- A credit card
- A line of credit
- A car loan
5. Don’t Make Too Many Applications
When you make credit card, rental and some employment applications, it affects your credit report and can reduce your credit rating. It warns lenders, who might then think that you’re trying to live above your means.
